New Britain Man Dies After Being Tasered In Police Standoff

A standoff at an apartment at 141 Broad St. in New Britain that lasted four hours last night has turned deadly.

A man barricaded himself inside his home and was throwing things from his window like a TV and lamp, possibly upset after apparently losing his job according to one witness.

State Police Lt. Paul Vance says police stormed the apartment around 11:30 p.m. and struggled taking him into custody.

“The subject struggled with officers. One of the officers was forced to utilize a Taser to allow him to take the subject into custody,” Vance said.

After that, police say the man was in control on the way downstairs, when he suffered what’s being called a cardiac incident, dying a few hours later at New Britain General Hospital.

The man has been identified, but his name has not yet been released. It’s not clear if the man was armed, had weapons in the home, or was on any type of drugs at the time of the standoff.

Connecticut State Police have taken over the investigation.
