New Milford Home Explosion Investigation Concluded

The official investigation into a deadly home explosion in New Milford last year revealed it was an accident.

The basement explosion leveled the home located at 109 Sunny Valley Road; killing one man and seriously injuring two others including the homeowner.

New Milford Police, the State Fire Marshall’s Office, working with the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, say an open liquid propane gas line was the cause. The line remained uncapped and abandoned for at least nine years after the earlier removal of a gas dryer from the home.

When the occupants went to the basement to investigate a gas odor, an ignition source caused the explosion. What that source was is unknown. Killed was Anthony Fratino III. Injured was homeowner John Wilkinson and Mr. Fratino’s son.
