Norwich Fire Victim Thanks Policeman For Saving Him

NORWICH, Conn. (AP) _ A Norwich man is thanking a city police officer for saving him during an early morning house fire.

Police say Officer Sean Sullivan discovered the fire on North Main Street while on patrol shortly before 4 a.m. Friday. Officials say he rescued 53-year-old Antoine Damas, who was trapped on the second floor.

Damas says he was being overcome by smoke and was ready to jump out a window, but Sullivan went into the building and got him out safely. Damas says he’s lucky the officer was there and no one was hurt.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire officials believe it began in the kitchen of Damas’ apartment.
