Hartford 911 Leader Fired

Hartford’s mayor announces he is firing the leader of the city’s 9-1-1 system, effective today.

Andrew Jaffee has served as the city’s director of Emergency Services and Telecommunications.

The move follows a recent incident in which police were dispatched to a report of gunshots in the Linmore Street area, and saw nothing.  A body was found by neighbors in the area the following morning.

In a separate incident, a dispatcher used a racial slur on a police radio.

Mayor Pedro Segarra says there have been too many incidents of neglect.

“Having courteous treatment of our callers is of help in resolving their emergencies, and adequately dispatching  services to specific locations is very important,” Segarra said.

The police department will help to run the city’s 9-1-1 system in for the time being.
