Let the bidding begin ! Something doesn’t smell right in Stamford. Recent news last week reported that Pitney Bowes one the largest Fortune 500 companies headquartered in Connecticut, has sold it’s headquarters. Number one how does a company that large sell it’s 427,000 sq. ft. headquarters and no one knows about it and no knows who bought it ? Very, very interesting. They apparently will shuffle the remaining employees to their facilities in Shelton and Danbury. But , where will the company leadership make camp? Is there a deal already in the works somewhere else ? Is this a move to try and force Connecticut to offer another ridiculous “corporate welfare” deal to a company that is already here? Is this the beginning of a game of chicken with Westchester County to compete for the headquarter office using taxpayer dollars as poker chips? What makes it most intriguing is that this is one the biggest employers in Stamford, where the Supremacy was Mayor, is there already a deal for them to go somewhere else in Connecticut and it’s all being hidden from the taxpayers? What I do know about large public companies is they like plans and certainty, to sell the building without a new plan , makes no sense. Hum, how about putting it at the controversial “boatyard property” , that was planned in secret, to put pressure on the thousands of local residents that are protesting the controversial plan there? It would be insanity to give any of your hard earned taxpayers dollars to another multi -national billion dollar company to accommodate their needs. But, we see it happening everyday …stay tuned.
