Public Safety Agencies Gather for UConn Conference

STORRS, Conn. (AP) _ Public safety agencies are headed to the University of Connecticut for a conference about the use of geographic information systems for law enforcement, homeland security and other functions.

It’s one of three meetings in the United States organized by the National Alliance for Public Safety GIS Foundation. The group helps coordinate efforts by public safety agencies to research and deploy the latest and best in information technology.

The meeting on Friday and Saturday will include training sessions and workshops that cover the use of GIS during last year’s Tropical Storm Sandy, the integration of GIS technology in statewide emergency 911 systems and other subjects.

Participants are expected to include representatives from the United Nations, Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Border Patrol, New York City Fire Department, Boston Office of Emergency Management and others.
