Yale President Promises School Will Be Tough On Sexual Assault

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ The new president of Yale University is promising more information about punishment for those who engage in sexual misconduct after a report sparked concerns that penalties have been too mild.

The report on sexual misconduct complaints included updates on four cases in which students were accused of having nonconsensual sex with female students. One student was suspended for two semesters, another was placed on probation and two others were given written reprimands.

The report sparked a petition with more than 400 signatures urging that students who commit sexual misconduct be suspended or expelled.

Yale says it does not tolerate rape or sexual misconduct.

Yale President Peter Salovey requested scenarios be developed by next month to illustrate circumstances that might be considered nonconsensual and their bearing on potential penalties.
