New Britain Man Avoids Jail Time In Bomb Threat Joke

FALMOUTH, Mass. (AP) _ A Connecticut man who joked about bringing a bomb on to a Cape Cod-to-Martha’s Vineyard ferry just two weeks after the Boston Marathon bombings has avoided jail time.

Krzysztof Malz of New Britain, Conn., was found guilty of threatening to commit a crime last week, and received a six-month suspended jail sentence and two years’ probation.

The Cape Cod Times reports he also was ordered to stay away from the ferry operator.

The 45-year-old Malz was arrested on April 28 after workers at the Steamship Authority’s Woods Hole Terminal contacted Falmouth police because a man preparing to board said he had a bomb in his car during a security screening.

No bomb was found.

Malz’s attorney said the comment was a joke that came at an unfortunate time.
