UConn Running Back Named Candidate For Award

University of Connecticut junior running back Lyle McCombs has been named a preseason candidate for the 2013 Doak Walker Award.

The honor, given to the nation’s top college run back each year, is awarded by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum. The award is the only major collegiate honor that requires candidates be in good academic standing, as well as talented in the game.

McCombs attracted the board’s attention for his star record with UConn football and throughout the league. Over the past two seasons, McCombs has led the school in rushing, with 1,151 rushes total. As a freshman in 2011, McCombs was the second-leading rusher in the country.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will announce semifinalists for the award on November 14. The winner will be announced live on national television on ESPN’s The Home Depot College Football Awards December 12.
