Bridgeport Records Year’s Seventh Homicide

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ Bridgeport police have identified a man who was shot to death in a car as a 32-year-old city resident.

Police say Kiaunte Ware was sitting in the driver’s seat of a car on Sixth Street at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday when someone opened fire at him. Authorities say Ware was shot multiple times and later pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital.

Ware was the city’s seventh homicide victim of the year. Family and friends gathered for a vigil at the crime scene Wednesday night.

No one has been charged in the killing and the motive is unclear.

State court records show Ware was sentenced to six years in prison in 2004 on drug and gun charges. He was also sentenced to two years in prison in 2010 on a drug conviction.
