The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is updating a pair of hazmat incidents from early this morning.
At Rocky Hill High School, nitric acid spilled from a beaker as a cabinet was being moved.
Custodial staff attempted to clean the spill but the acid reacted to water in a mop.
The workers were evacuated and none needed medical attention. The cleanup was completed by an environmental contractor.
Also this morning, two separate tractor trailer issues linked to debris in the road resulted in fuel spills along Interstate 84 eastbound.
In the first, a blown tire at exit 67 damaged a fuel line, causing about a five gallon spill.
The second accident occurred near exit 68 damaged a saddle tank, causing a ten gallon spill.
Lines on both trucks were secured and fuel transferred to the main tanks in both.
