Weather Service Says Storm Wednesday Was A Tornado

MANSFIELD, Conn. (AP) _ The National Weather Service says a tornado touched down in Connecticut, the fourth this summer.
Meteorologists said Thursday that the tornado on Wednesday was an EF1, moving at about 90 mph from Andover to Coventry before winding down to a halt in Mansfield.

The tornado moved along an 11-mile path for about a half-hour beginning at 5:19 p.m.

Meteorologists from the National Weather Service who investigated the aftermath of the storm said the greatest damage was a barn in Coventry that lost its roof.

The weather service issued tornado warnings for the eastern Connecticut areas on Wednesday afternoon for radar indications of storm rotation.

Last week, the weather service determined that three small, brief tornadoes touched down July 1 in Greenwich, Stamford, Enfield and Windsor Locks
