Residents in East Hampton will continue a long-established tradition this weekend with the 35th Annual Old Home Days celebration, which returns to the grounds of Center School this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
‘Old Home Days,’ which first began before World War II as a one-day summer harvest celebration, is now a three-day event that includes a 5K race, community vendor booths, and the largest parade in Middlesex County.
Old Home Day Association Charter Member Red McKinney says the events do more than just provide entertainment, he says they strengthen the community.
“It gives the community an opportunity to get together and see their friends and neighbors that they haven’t seen in a year or so,” McKinney said.
McKinney also says the event provides affordable entertainment, with no entrance fee charged at the gate. Any fundraising from the event goes towards funding next year’s celebration.
Activities begin Thursday and continue Friday with a 5K “Glorious Gallop” around Lake Pocotopaug. A large parade will also step off at 11:00 am Saturday, featuring more than 100 broadway-themed units.
