BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ Bridgeport police say a 22-year-old woman was shot in the leg while fighting off an attempted sexual assault by two men who carjacked her.

The victim told police she was at a gas station shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday when two men approached and one of them got into her car. She said the man forced her to drive away at gunpoint.

The Stratford woman said the two men later took her to Beardsley Park, where they tried to sexually assault her. Police said the woman was shot while resisting the suspects and taken to a hospital with a non-life threatening injury.

Police searched the park area for several hours but didn’t find anything.

Authorities say they’re working to corroborate the story and checking local businesses’ video surveillance systems.
