HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Hartford police are investigating whether Mayor Pedro Segarra’s former chief of staff improperly used a city vehicle after he resigned last month.
Segarra’s office confirmed Monday that police are reviewing ex-chief of staff Jared Kupiec’s use of his former city SUV.
Police say they were investigating smashed vehicle windows Monday morning when they discovered that one of the vehicles was owned by the city and parked in front of Kupiec’s apartment. Segarra’s office says Kupiec admitted using the SUV without permission.
Kupiec didn’t return messages seeking comment.
Kupiec resigned last month amid criticism of his city credit card use, saying he planned to attend law school. He reimbursed the city nearly $460 for credit card charges at an expensive New Year’s Eve dinner with Segarra and several other people.
