Route 8 Bust

A man  speeding on Route 8 late Saturday night  is  facing narcotics and other charges.Just before  11:30 pm  a State Trooper  clocked   24 year old Nathan Araujo of Naugatuck doing  83 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone near  exit 13.Araujo pulled over to the shoulder, on his own  before the Trooper activated his emergency lights.As the Trooper approached the vehicle ,Araujo sped away.

The Trooper followed the car north on Route 8 and  saw the  vehicle  with only its brake lights illuminated  get off the highway at Exit 16 in Derby.The trooper exited the highway and found the suspects car parked in a  handicap parking spot  in the parking lot of the Shop Rite Plaza.Araujo then fled on foot  towards the woods near the shopping center and was apprehended with the assistance  of  a State Police K-9.

Araujo was in possession of  6 gallon-sized plastic  zip lock bags  and multiple sandwich-sized  containing  marijuana along with  electronic scales and $3,455 dollars  in cash.

Araujo is charged with Speeding,Misuse of Plates,No Insurance, Reckless Driving, Operating with a Suspended License, Eluding an Officer, Possession  of a Controlled Substance and Possession with Intent to Sell a Controlled Substance.Araujo is being held in  lieu of  $100,000  bond and is due in derby Superior Court July 16.
