Floods Wash Out Amtrak Tracks In Vermont

ROXBURY, Vt. (AP) _ Railroad crews are working to repair damage to the New England Central Railroad line in the Roxbury area after flash floods washed out portions of the rail bed.

Vermont Transportation Director Assistant Director Trini Brassard says that on Thursday and Friday Amtrak bused passengers between St. Albans and Springfield, Mass.

Brassard says the repairs to the tracks should be completed Friday and Amtrak service, and freight service, should get back to normal on Saturday.

Brassard says the flash flooding over the last two days caused multiple w ashouts.
She said recent upgrades to the railroad system helped lessen the severity of the damage because the rails themselves and the ties they sit on were largely unscathed, the only damage to the rail bed and the culverts.
