Body of Child Recovered at New London Beach
The body of a 6-year-old boy who went missing while playing in the water at Green Harbor Beach in New London just before 6 p.m. Thursday has been recovered and confirmed to be that of Anthony Bernoudy, who was set to turn seven next Wednesday.
The New London Police and Fire Departments responded to Green Harbor Beach at approximately 5:57 p.m. on July 4, on the report of a missing 6-year-old child that was last seen near the water at the beach. Police immediately began an open area search for this child and requested mutual aid in the form of rescue dive teams from several local fire departments and the Connecticut State Police Emergency Services Unit.

At 11:10 p.m. an emergency diver located the body of a small child in the water a short distance from the beach. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, his identity later confirmed by family members.
This incident remains under investigation by police. Likely cause of death is drowning.
The beach will be closed today. New London Community boating the beach is also cancelled.
City personnel will continue operations at the beach to assess if it is safe to re-open and resume normal programs.
