HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Public safety officials have postponed a holiday weekend fireworks display on the Connecticut River in Hartford because the river is too high.
Scheduled for Saturday, the Riverfest celebration was put off because officials said on Wednesday that the river is projected to rise to 14.7 feet on Friday and is expected to fall to 14 feet on Saturday. The river’s rise is the result of heavy rains in the past few weeks.
Areas of the Riverfront Parks, including boat ramps that are used to launch the fireworks barges, will be under water.
Officials did not immediately announce when the event will be rescheduled
