Police Chase Alligator Along City Street

New London Police are trying to learn more about an alligator they found this afternoon,  running along a street less than a quarter mile from Interstate 95  and Route 1.

Police say the three-and-a-half-foot long alligator ran into a small grass area off Broad Street near Christiana Street.  Police were able to trap the reptile until the animal control officer arrived and caged it,  then turned it over to the state Department of Energy  and Environmental Protection.

Anyone with any information is asked to call New London Police at (860) 447-5269.
