UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun casino is set to announce new retail businesses that are expected to bring in more revenue.
The Indian-run casino, facing falling slot revenue and intense competition in the Northeast, is set to announce details of new retail businesses on Tuesday. The project will break ground later this year.
The eastern Connecticut casino already offers 130,000 square feet of retail space.
The Mohegan Sun joins neighbor and competitor Foxwoods Resorts Casino, which is in a partnership with an outlet developer. The Foxwoods project has not yet detailed its plans.
Keith Foley, an analyst at Moody’s Investor Service, says casinos need retail to bring in more customers and keep them at the casino.
The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority also runs the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
