Victims Identified In Gas Station Crash

New Haven Police have released the names of the passengers involved in a fatal gas station crash Thursday.

Police have identified the deceased as 32-year-old Billy Yancy and 35-year-old Derand Alan Lance, both of New Haven. The surviving victim was identified as 27-year-old Tyrese Worthy, also of New Haven.

Three men were in the car at the time of the crash. Upon impact, one man was ejected from the vehicle, the other two remained inside. The ejected man was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and was the only passenger to survive.

The men’s 2011 Hyundai Sonata crashed Thursday while traveling westbound on Whalley Avenue. The vehicle collided into the gas station after the operator failed to turn, causing him to strike the curb and crash through the station.

Police expect the investigation will last several months. At this time, they are asking anyone with information to contact Sgt. Rose Dell at 203-946-6304.
