State Approves Design Funding For New Sandy Hook Elementary School

The state Bond Commission today approved $750-thousand for design work for the new Sandy Hook elementary school.

Governor Dannel Malloy says the state will work with the community to move the project forward.

Malloy was asked if the state will essentially pick up the entire cost of rebuilding the school.

“We will pay for the replacement value of the school,” Malloy said.  “If there are expansions for additional capacity those discussions will have to continue.”

A town committee decided to tear down and replace the school, after a mass shooting killed 26 students and educators there December 14.
