New York Man Charged In Electricity Theft

A Bronx, New York man is under arrest, accused of stealing electricity in order to help his marijuana growing operation.

Thirty-three-year-old Joel Polanco had been under investigation for some time, according to West Haven police.

Drug Enforcement Agency officers as well as those with the United Illuminating security department were also involved.

According to authorities, Polanco stole roughly $90,000 in electricity to run a grow house for marijuana.

They seized over 360 plants.

Polanco is charged with first degree larceny and a number of drug offenses, including operating a drug factory, conspiracy, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a hallucinogen.

Bond has been set at $100,000.
