Kayaker Pulled From Sound In Milford

Milford police say they had to rescue a man from Long Island Sound Wednesday near Charles Island.

It was just after 5:30 last evening when the city’s police marine unit spotted the 47-year-old holding on to his kayak, complaining of leg cramps.

He was pulled to shore, evaluated, and transported to the hospital for treatment.

The man said he launched from Gulf Beach but was knocked out of his vessel by a wave.

He was not wearing a lifejacket and the water temperature at the time was a chilly 63 degrees.

Police are reminding residents who boat to take precautions, including wearing a lifejacket, carrying a whistle or other sounding device, considering weather conditions, and leaving a float plan with someone ashore.
