A 21 year old Cromwell man  is in stable condition and under State Police Guard at Hartford Hospital after he was shot by Cromwell Police Officer just after 4 o’clock Wednesday morning.Police received a report of a person driving a vehicle which hit a greenhouse.A Cromwell Patrol Officer  spotted the vehicle heading in the opposite direction of West Street, turned about and attempted to catch up with it.

The suspect vehicle  went off the road and crashed near  intersection of West Street and Washington  Road .State Police say the driver attempted to get out of the vehicle and flee,there was an interaction between the  suspect, Joshua Beaston and the Officer and the  officer discharged his weapon, hitting  Beaston.

Beaston is charged with Larceny,Criminal Mischief  and Criminal Trespass. His bond  was set as a half-million dollars,until he can be arraigned in Middletown Superior Court.

The Officer involved has been placed on  administrative duty.Their identification has not yet been released.
