Several big-name golfers have committed this week to compete at the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship, which will be held at Cromwell’s TPC River Highlands from June 27 to June 23.
In a statement released Tuesday, Travelers Championship officials announced the addition of seven new competitors to the tournament. Louis Oosthuizen, Harris English, Bo Van Pelt, Ryan Moore, Angel Cabrera, Camilo Villegas, and Jerry Kelly will join the likes of top players Bubba Watson, Lee Westwood, Rickie Fowler, and others when they play in Connecticut later this month.
Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube says the new commitments are exciting additions for golf fans in Connecticut.
“Our latest group of commitments includes great golfers, which makes our already competitive field even better,” Grube said in a press release.
Golf fans in Connecticut have reason to be excited. The new additions include golfers at the top of their field in many respects. The newest competitors have raked in millions of dollars of tournament winnings collectively, as well as hold high rankings, both nationally and internationally.
Veteran golfer Jerry Kelly, a 1989 graduate of the University of Hartford, is set to be a local favorite in the tournament. Kelly is returning to Cromwell for this sixteenth year in the tournament, his tenth year straight.
Kelly will join 155 other players next week in competing against defending champion Mark Leishman for a top prize of $1.098 million and the title of PGA Tour Travelers Champion.
