State Police Release Names In Meriden Taser Incident

State police have released the name of the man who died after being hit with a taser by Meriden police on Sunday.

He’s been indentified as 43-year-old Noel Mendoza of Meriden.

Police say he became violent after showing up in the parking lot of headquarters Sunday night, informing officers he’d smoked crack and ingested cocaine.

Officer Jeff Witkins, who was involved in the incident, has been placed on administrative assignment.

State police are heading the investigation.

They say Mendoza was tasered after spitting and attempting to bite police and EMTs who were trying to subdue him and place him an in ambulance.

Mendoza died after he was transported to Mid State Medical Center.
