United States Senator Richard Blumenthal announced Monday that he will chair the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Competitiveness, Innovation, and Export Promotion.
Blumenthal’s subcommittee is a branch of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, which Blumenthal will serve his first year on this coming session. The subcommittee will focus on innovation and manufacturing.
Blumenthal says the leadership position will provide him with more opportunities to benefit Connecticut, through using the subcommittee to evaluate competition and uncover the positive impacts of innovation and tourism.
The senator sees the opportunity as a favorable opportunity for job growth within both the state and the nation.
“American manufacturing, especially in Connecticut, is poised for resurgence,” Blumenthal said in a press release.
Blumenthal hopes that his subcommittee will help bolster this resurgence through encouraging exportation of American goods and services.
