New Haven Man Sentenced to 60 Years for Murder

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ A New Haven man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for the murder of a former friend who was shot while sitting in a car in the city’s Newhallville neighborhood.

The New Haven Register reports Kenneth McCoy (http://bit.ly/195blVG ) showed little visible emotion as he was sentenced Thursday by Superior Court Judge Jon Blue, but the victim’s family erupted in applause.

Dallas Boomer was shot to death on Dec. 6, 2011 on Willis Street.

A witness testified McCoy approached the car and shot Boomer and continued shooting as Boomer tried to drive away.

Police have said the shooting was drug related.

McCoy’s attorney, Richard Silverstein, argued that witness was unreliable. He also noted that Boomer was out at 2 a.m., on parole, selling narcotics.
