GROTON, Conn. (AP) _ The city of Groton and the town of Groton are in a dispute over roads in Groton.
The Day of New London reports (http://bit.ly/13gCAWI ) the Groton city mayor, the town mayor and lawyers for both municipalities will meet next week to try and work out the responsibilities of each when it comes to building and maintaining roads in the city, which is a political subdivision of the southeastern Connecticut town.
The dispute arose after the Town Council cut more than $476,000 from the city’s request for police and highway money. Money for police was later restored at representative town meeting.
Town councilor James Streeter, who ran unsuccessfully for city mayor in May, says if the meeting doesn’t solve the dispute, he’s encouraging the city to take the town to court.
