East Haven Hiker Rescued on Mount Washington

PINKHAM NOTCH, N.H. (AP) _ Fellow hikers have come to the aid of a woman who suffered a leg injury on a Mount Washington trail.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department says the woman, who is from East Haven, Conn., lost her footing on the Crossover Trail near the Tuckerman Junction Tuesday morning due to inclement snow and ice conditions.

Other hikers went for help. Appalachian Mountain Club volunteers put her leg in a splint, but she was unable to walk. They then carried her for about a mile to the Mount Washington Auto Road, where she was taken to the summit for further assistance.

The woman, whose name was not released was driven down the mountain and evaluated by an ambulance crew.
