The number of New Britain’s finest is on the upswing.
Following a hiring freeze, the city has recruited and hired 18 officers.
That, says Mayor Timothy O’Brien, is in addition to several lateral hires they’ve brought in from other departments.
The new cops will begin their training June 14th and should be ready to hit the streets in about eight or nine months.
O’Brien says the force was well below the number for which it was budgeted, 165.
The mayor says the goal is 172, which he says they should reach with another round of hires by next year.
