New Britain Cat-Killer Gets 30 Days
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) _ A 65-year-old New Britain man has been sentenced to 30 days in prison and two years of probation after pleading guilty to killing three cats and injuring four others.
The New Britain Herald reports (http://bit.ly/18xDwto) that Stanislaw Ternacki was charged in 2011 after witnesses saw him throw several cats off an outside staircase, then beat them with a stick as they lay on the ground.
Police said three of the cats died and four were seriously hurt.
New Britain Superior Court Judge Hillary Strackbein told Ternacki on Tuesday that she was giving him the most lenient sentence possible. But she said he had to serve prison time because society can’t tolerate cruelty to animals.
She also told Ternacki he can’t own pets while on probation, saying he doesn’t appear to have the needed empathy.
