State police say they investigated 281 motor vehicle accidents on Connecticut highways during the Memorial Day driving period,  59  of those involving injuries.

Police issued 1,941 speeding tickets and arrested 57 people for drunk driving.  They also charged 718 people with seat belt violations and 4,294 with hazardous moving violations.

Two deaths  —  in West Hartford and North Stonington — were reported on state-patrolled highways.
