Sub Base to Fire Off Gun Salute for Memorial Day

GROTON, Conn. (AP) _ The U.S. Navy base in Groton is planning to fire off a 21-gun salute on Memorial Day to honor the men and women who have died while serving in the armed forces.

Naval Submarine Base New London is joining other military installations around the country Monday in honoring the fallen.

The saluting battery will fire single round volleys at one-minute intervals beginning at noon at a weapons compound on the base.

The base in Groton is the home port for more than a dozen nuclear-powered attack submarines.
