NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) _ The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is hosting Vice President Joe Biden as the keynote speaker at its graduation ceremony on Wednesday.
It marks the 132nd commencement for the service academy in New London.
The academy has about 1,000 cadets in its four-year program. Students graduate with a bachelor of science degree and an obligation to serve five years in the Coast Guard.
In 2011, President Barack Obama delivered the keynote address at the academy’s graduation. U.S. presidents traditionally address the graduating class at one of the federal service academies on a rotating basis.
Biden was in Connecticut earlier this year to rally support for the gun control proposals of Obama in the wake of the Newtown school shooting.
