Torrington’s Mayor Will Not Seek Re-Election

Torrington’s mayor Ryan Bingham announced in a press conference Monday that he will not seek re-election in the upcoming term.

The Republican mayor first gained attention as one of the youngest mayors in the public spotlight in 2005, when he was elected at the age of 22. After eight years and four terms in office, however, Bingham says that he wants to be more available for his family.

Bingham’s wife is expecting a baby this summer, and with his commitments to his family, he doesn’t expect that he would be able to dedicate the time to the city that the job requires if he were to serve a fifth term.

Bingham is currently unsure of his next move, however he doesn’t expect that this will be his last brush with public service. Bingham told WTIC News that he is not ruling out a campaign for elected office at some point in the future.
