HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ U.S. Reps. John B. Larson of Connecticut and Mike Thompson of California are holding a discussion at a Hartford church on ways to reduce gun violence.
Local community and faith leaders are expected to meet with the congressmen Thursday.
Thompson chairs the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, established by Congress in December.
Panels on gun violence reduction, urban gang violence, school safety and effective interventions to reduce mental, emotional and behavioral disorders in young people will address the task force.
A more formal field hearing is scheduled Friday at the Law & Government Academy at Hartford High School.
At that event, Larson, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra and Hartford Public Schools Superintendent and other officials are expected to discuss gun violence in Connecticut and across the nation.
