MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) _ Manchester High School plans to offer a special career academy for students considering going into the medical field.

The Journal Inquirer of Manchester reports  the medical careers academy will be offered to 10th and 11th graders.

The school says staff will guide participants in activities ranging from researching careers to secondary education planning.

The high school is partnering with the Eastern Connecticut Health Network, a local nursing home and other area medical practices to give students the opportunity to job shadow or do internships.

Students will also have the opportunity to attend workshops and attend guest lectures.

The work will be in addition to a student’s regular course load.

About three dozen students have expressed an interest in the program, which will launch in the fall.
