NEWINGTON, Conn. (AP) _ The secretary of veterans affairs is planning to discuss the department’s efforts to reduce backlogs in compensation claims during a visit to Connecticut.
Secretary Eric Shinseki is planning to speak Thursday at a VA regional office in Newington.
The department announced last month it was taking steps to speed up claims decisions for veterans who have waited a year or longer.
A new, electronic claims-processing system is also being implemented around the country. The department says the system has been in place at the Hartford regional office since September and will be deployed to all 56 regional offices by the end of this year.
