New Haven Police say a 52-year-old West Haven man is in critical condition after he was shot and subsequently suffered a heart attack. Police say Mickey Tillery had gone to New Haven after his niece reported a domestic dispute by her boyfriend.
They say when Tillery and the woman’s mother arrived, he was shot in the groin by the boyfriend, identified as 30-year-old Jermain Reddick, who fled with a friend.
Police stopped the getaway car at Church and Chaopel Streets and took Reddick into custody on a charge involving a parole violation . They seized a 9 mm pistol in his possession. Reddick was charged with assault, criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment, carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle, domestic assault, risk of injury to a minor and criminal use of a firearm.
The driver, identified as 21-year-old Akeem Whitely of New Haven was charged with conspoiracy to commit first degree assault and reckless endangerment, and with hindering prosecution, and having a weapon in a motor vehicle.
Police say Tillery was taken to Yale-New Haven hospital after the shooting, and suffered a heart attack there.
