One Dead As Waterbury Fire Damages 2 Buildings

One man is dead after a fire Saturday afternoon in Waterbury.

Deputy Fire Chief Rick Hart says it started in a multi-family building at the corner of Sudbury and Tremont Streets at about 3:30 p.m.  Firefighters were able to pull a man out of the building, but he was later pronounced dead.

Waterbury’s Mayor Neil O’Leary identified the fire victim as Victor Rivera in a tweet from his office.

The fire spread to the third floor and attic of an adjacent building.

Residents of both buildings were displaced,

The cause is under investigation.
