National Guard Troops Returning

HARTFORD, Conn., – Maj. Gen. Thaddeus J. Martin, Adjutant General and Commander of the Connecticut National Guard, announces the return of 100 Soldiers from the 1109th Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG) of Groton.

The unit will return to Connecticut on Saturday, April, 27, 2013, at approximately 11:00 a.m., via buses and arrive at the National Guard aviation maintenance facility in Groton.

The 1109th supported four Combat Aviation Brigades (CABs) in Southwest Asia and operated in several locations in Kuwait and Afghanistan.

While in theater, the unit conducted aviation field maintenance, depot level aviation repairs, as well as providing aircraft maintenance contact teams and test pilots.

The 1109th TASMG has been mobilized and deployed several times, most notably in 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and in 2008 in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.

The Connecticut National Guard currently has more than 550 Soldiers and Airmen serving overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The 1109th TASMG is commanded by Col. Al Wilcoxson of Shelton, Conn.
