Coventry police say the former fire chief who was one of two firefighters arrested in February after allegations of sexual assault involving participants in the Junior Firefighter program has been arrested on new charges.  Police say 53-year-old Joseph Carilli,  former chief of the department, allegedly wrote his victim in violation of a court order and the conditions of his release.

Carilli is charged with tampering with a witness, criminal violation of a protective order and second degree harassment.

Carilli and Lieutenant Joe Fragoso were arrested in February on charged with having illicit relations with members of the Junior Firefighters.  Both have been free on bond.

The town suspended its nationally-recognized Junior Firefighter program after the arrests.
