Name Chosen For Seal Pup With Amputated Fin

The Mystic Aquarium says the harbor seal wose left rear flipper was amputated after she suffered a life-threatening infection now has a name.  Aquarium volunteers who cared for the seal,  previously known as “Pup 49” had suggested five names of harbors for the seal,  and after a vote by more than eight-thousand members of the public,  the name “Coral” has been chosen.

Coral will remain on display at the acquarium through Sunday, and then will be takeoff display for training until the fall.

Coral was rescued in Plymouth, Massachusetts, last July. She underwent surgery in November.  The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has given permission for her to stay at the Mystic Aquarium instead of being returned to the wild.
