A Pair Of Rescues In Fairfield

The Fairfield Fire Department responded to a pair of incidents resulting in rescues on opposite ends of the town just minutes apart around 3:30 P.M. Saturday.

The first incident involved a rescue of a hiker in need of medical assistance while on the hiking trails in the Lake Mohegan Open Space Area. Information from area hikers led rescuers to the individual.

Then minutes later, a crew responded to a one-vehicle crash in the woods between Interstate-95 and the Metro North Railroad Tracks. A state trooper spotted the disabled pick-up truck from the highway and called it in. Authorties say the truck, carrying four men from Fairfield, entered the woods through an opening on Southport’s Westway road . Three of the four men suffered severe injuries and were transported to area hospitals.

The names of those involved in the two separate rescues have not been released.
