Five Arrested After Quinnipiac Loses Hockey Championship

HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) _ Hamden police say a large gathering at Quinnipiac University on Saturday night after the school’s hockey team lost the NCAA title game to Yale was fairly peaceful and didn’t get out of control, although five people were arrested.

Police Chief Tom Wydra told the New Haven Register  that several hundred students yelled and chanted on the quad of the Mount Carmel campus. He said a small fire was set and a light post was damaged. The newspaper also reports that a person fought with a security guard.

Wydra says three of the five people arrested were students charged with disorderly conduct. He says three arrests out of thousands of students “is not bad.” He says weekend arrests of students aren’t unusual.

Yale beat Quinnipiac 4-0 Saturday for the championship.
