HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Hartford city auditors are reviewing the credit card use of 185 city employees at the request of the City Council president, who says he received complaints from some government workers and residents about possible misuse of the cards.
City records show that city employees, including Mayor Pedro Segarra, have charged tens of thousands of dollars on meals, hotels and other expenses since January 2011.
Council President Shawn Wooden says some of the meal and hotel charges appear troubling at first glance, but he’s waiting for the city Internal Audit Commission’s report before passing judgment. He’s asked the commission to finish the review before the end of the month.
Segarra aides say the credit card spending has been only for official city business and within budgeted spending limits.
