Game #39….For All the Marbles ! – There aren’t too many seasons in Women’s College Basketball that the best team doesn’t play for the National Championship. But the two hottest teams are in UConn & Louisville tonight in New Orleans. Their last loss both came to Notre Dame in Hartford at the Big East Tournament. Since then, the Huskies have gotten better, deeper and Breanna Stewart has been, well George Gervin. Ice Lady or as Joe D’ tabbed her #tbs “The Breanna Stewart” – She has displayed the form that USA Basketball saw in her as a High Schooler. And to save her best play for the biggest stage is quite remarkable. She dropped 29 on Sklyar and the Irish Sunday as UConn put the hammer down and finally beat ND to get to this point. As rough as the first 10 minutes were, the Huskies took care of the ball late first half when they made their run…14-3 to close the half. Then everytime the Irish looked to make it interesting, UConn had an answer with a three point play of some form.

Tonight, the Cardinals are the surprise entry. “Party Crashers” as they have called themselves especially after beating Baylor and Tennessee in OKC. The Schimmel sisters have come alive to help get this team here. But 6-1 Junior Antonita Slaughter has been the key. 6/7 from 3pt range against Baylor. Six more Sunday against California in their come from behind win. She can shoot, but she needs time to release. And Guard Bria Smith is attacking the basket with confidence. Jeff Walz, wither he accepts the job at Geno’s Restaurant or not after the season, again is showing why he’s a good coach. He’s gotten this team to believe that anything is possible. And tah-da ! They’re here…

The majority of the numbers say UConn should win tonight. But stats don’t play, humans do. And that’s why I think tonight’s game will be a ton of fun. Debbie Fiske and I have the broadcast from NOLA tonight at 8pm with complete coverage afterwards with highlights, stats, CD, Locker Room Reax and press conference coverage. Hope you can join us !
